My local Yamaha dealer is unwilling to bring in any XSR900's without me buying it first. I’m unwilling to drop money on something that I’ve never ridden. We are at an impasse.
For what it’s worth, t hey said that they would sell me a new 2 018 XSR for $8000 if I decided to order one. I don’t think there were any improvements for the 2019 MY, just a new color. The 2020 ones are allegedly coming soon (I’m guessing bikes come out in the spring?) but again, probably just a new color..
The next closest Yamaha dealer is on highway 99, which is both where I currently work, and a place well-known for shady dealerships. They have an XSR900 in stock, but it needs to be serviced. Can’t ride it until next Saturday, which... Is a day I’ll likely be working
All this is to say, zero progress has been made!
I wonder if Ducati would let me ride a used Street fighter...

I don’t know how to fix that, but I think you are 100% right not to plunk down that type of money for a totally unknown machine.

i mean...ride an FZ-09,there you go?
here in canada, test rides
...rreealllyy arent a thing. there are fewer and fewer demo days now. kawi stopped totally.
yes, you are expected to just drop 10K on a machine and hope you like it.
and almost everyone does.

I did ride one. Loved it. But everyone has been telling me that the geometry feels quite a bit different because of the different seat height or something.
Really? Damn... I’ve spent the last two months test-riding every bike I could get ahold of. The g uys at D ucati, kawasaki, Yamaha, KTM, and Triumph seemed like they’d literally give me whatever I wanted to take for a spin. I can't imagine not getting some time with a vehicle before purchase

Guessing they’ve determined that they’d have a hard time selling an XSR if you didn’t buy it, otherwise they’d get one in to accommodate you. IMO, spending $10k on a machine without a test ride is asinine and I wouldn’t do it either. If they’re unwilling to be supportive in your attempt to give them $10k, I’d hate to think how terrible their service would be after you’ve bought it.

and thus why I hate dealing with “powersports” dealers. I hope to god Harley’s “streetfighter” naked bike is really good, because I never want to set foot in one of those places again.

yea, the industry in canada is VERY different then the us.
we have such a short season and 90% of the time, its tire kickers/idiot kids with nothing better to do. so we just dont do it any more.
I have a XSR900 and a MT-09 sitting next to each at my dealer, and I J
US
T sat on them side by side.
The geometry is the same. or at least I didnt feel any difference.
Where i DI feel a different was the seat and tank. Seat is narrower on the XSR, and the tank is a bit wider. so you end up spreading your legs more.

I hate to say it, but Ducati has been the best dealership to work with. Like, that I’ve ever been to, including cars for both personal and business needs.
“hey, can I ride a few bikes today?”
“ Sure. E verything on that wall is ready to go, grab whatever and leave your ID on the desk. Come back before closing!”

I wonder how the impending winter plays into this. I'd imagine they'd have a hard time selling much of anything in the next few months, but the XSR900's seem to be moving pretty well.

Huh. My knowledge of the Canadian market is basically just what I’ve gleaned from Fortnine videos.
Hmm. In that case m aybe I’ll tell the dealership to order one this week. I want to get at least a bit of time in before the rain completely takes over our forecast...
